10 Minutes of Silence

On three mornings this week I had the good fortune to sit quietly outside and watch the sun come up. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed but, over time, I’ve allowed the circumstances of life to get in the way of those 10 to 15 minutes of quiet, peaceful enjoyment.

After my experiences this week I’ve decided to work on making that morning activity a habit again. I plan to make it a priority as many mornings as possible.

Philosophers, theologians, doctors and others all recommend that we spend some time each day in silence, as little as 10 minutes is beneficial. Whether you enjoy the early mornings and the sunrise like me or you prefer another time of the day, make it a priority to sit in silence.

For some, including me, this is an acquired skill. It’s often difficult initially to quiet our minds to receive the maximum benefit of this exercise. But, as with most things, patience along with persistence is the key.

Decide right now to invest 10 minutes of silence and calm out of every 24 hours. It may be the best payoff you’ve ever had from any investment.

Have a great week.
